My research topic is appropriation art from the perspective of Scandinavian copyright law. Appropriation art means that pre-existing objects or images are used with little transformation in order to create artworks; for example, the use of a copyright protected photo from a magazine in a collage painting. The aim for my research is to define appropriation art in a legal context and to identify problems that are related to appropriation art and copyright infringements, with regard to the rights of the copyright owner vis-à-vis the freedom of art and artistic expression.
